Mangashi, a History of Manga Pre-publication

Why is there no Shonen Jump in France?
Pre-publication magazines – or mangashi – are at the heart of the manga industry in Japan. Yet in France, they are completely absent. No Shonen Jump, no Ribon or Big Comic on our newsstands. This absence is all the more surprising given that we are the second-largest manga-consuming country after Japan, and the market has grown spectacularly over the past 10 years.
How can this paradox be explained? Why have these magazines never found their place in France?
To answer these questions, I invite you to explore manga pre-publication in Japan and in France.
You'll discover why these magazines shaped the Japanese industry and why they never found their place in France. Above all, you'll understand why this situation could soon change!
